Indiana Senate Committee Votes to Advance Sunday Motorcycle Sales JANUARY 21, 2012 --- On Friday, January 20, the Senate Commerce and Economic Development Committee voted 7-0 to send Senate Bill 192 to the full Senate. Senator Ed Charbonneau, R-Valparaiso, authored the legislation allowing the sale of motorcycles on Sundays.

Legislation and ABATE Day Update JANUARY 12, 2012 --- There have been a lot of people at the Statehouse, but not a lot has been going on. With the inability to have a quorum in the House most of last week, very little business has taken place. A few bill lists were introduced when they convened briefly on Monday, so there were some committee hearings on Wednesday. The House Roads and Transportation Committee took testimony on HB1197 concerning "mopeds", but will not vote until next week. More

Motorcycle rider course registration begins Friday, February 24th We will begin taking registrations for the 2012 motorcycle rider course training season on Friday, February 24th at the Indiana Motorcycle Expo in Indianapolis. Registration information will also be available online at that time.

National Call to Action: Federal Helmet Mandates WASHINGTON, DC --- The Motorcycle Riders Foundation reports that the US Senate Committee on Commerce Science and Transportation will be marking up The Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 2011 (S.1449). This bill governs the National Highway Transportation Safety Administrations activities. This bill has the potential to greatly affect motorcyclists nationwide. More

Educate Your Elected Officials On Recreational Trails Program Take Action! As mentioned in a previous American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) alert, the future of the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) is in danger. The Senate has introduced legislation entitled MAP-21, which would end dedicated funding for the RTP. Concurrently, the House of Representatives is drafting its version that will also affect RTP. More

Michigan Riders Need Our Help! ABATE of Michigan would like the help of all motorcyclists in their fight for freedom. Senate Bill 291 passed the Michigan Senate with a 24 YES vote to 14 NO vote in late June. We want to thank all those activists who sent a post card to Governor Snyder over the summer. More
